Another Molly Overdose At Music Festival – 19 Year Old Victoria Callahan
Addiction & Recovery NewsVictoria Callahan, of Sterling, Virginia, was transported by ambulance in critical condition to MedStar Washington Hospital Center at around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, where she later died.
This is just another sad example of what a “fun night out” can turn into. Stories like this always put us in a precarious situation because we are not out to “drug-free” the world. Our focus is to provide community and resources to those still struggling, but stories like this are always heart breaking.
At the very least we hope that tragedies like this can bring awareness to the dangers of these synthetic drugs.
Victoria was pronounced dead after taking the drug “Molly” at Echostage in Northeast D.C., police confirmed to FOX 5. She went out with friends to celebrate her birthday.

Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, director of the D.C. Department of Health, called a special meeting on Molly use Friday. She said Molly is so dangerous because of the rush users feel. It also stops them from recognizing when they are in trouble.
“It can be dangerous to your liver, to your kidney and to your heart,” said Nesbitt. “It’s not just a little bit of sweating and a little bit of your heart beating fast. It can be very life-threatening. It can result in death.”
Molly is a synthetic psychoactive drug also known as ecstasy and produces feelings of increased energy, euphoria, emotional warmth and empathy toward others, and distortions in sensory and time perception, according to National Institute on Drug Abuse. It is usually taken in tablet form and the term “Molly” refers to the pure crystalline powder form of MDMA, usually sold in capsules.
