Parent’s Release Video Showing The Effects Of Ecstasy On Their Daughter

Addiction & Recovery News

A video of a teenage girl who was left in a coma after taking the ecstasy-like drug MDMA has been released by her family.

Amy Thomson’s life changed dramatically after she collapsed at a party in Glasgow in June and remained critically ill in the hospital for a month.

Doctors were slowly able to stabilize the 16-year-old and in August she was transferred to a specialist rehabilitation unit for people with brain injuries. [via telegraph.co.uk]

The footage shows the effect the pill has had on 16-year-old Amy Thomson, who collapsed after taking MDMA in June

This type of story is just damn heartbreaking. This poor girl.

It is always a bit of a dilemma to report these stories. Believe it or not, Sober Nation is not an anti-drug organization. Drugs exist, drugs play a big (and sometimes positive) role in many people’s lives. Sober Nation has always been had an educational and advocacy agenda for “addiction.”

There is a big difference between drugs and addiction and we only want to help those who are suffering.

However, when you see stories like this, it’s still a tragic reminder as to the sudden and permanent consequences these drugs can have. Sure this girl made a bad choice, but that’s just part of being a person. In this case, one bad choice changed her life forever. She will probably never be the same.

After these events transpired, Amy’s parents decided to release this video to try and spread awareness as to the possible consequences of the drug. I feel it is a responsibility to help spread the message as well. It’s just so sad.

Some of Amy’s friends claim to welcome the video although clearly they are upset about the content itself. Many of these friends have not seen her since she collapsed at a party.

The Mail Online reports that there is some hope for a recovery. The drug seriously damaged the young girls brain, but her parents believe that with therapy she can make progress.

A 33-year-old man and two women, aged 17 and 18, were arrested for alleged drug offenses after Amy collapsed on June 10.

So a word of warning. Understand that you are free to make your own choices. You are free to make all the mistakes and experience life in whatever capacity you wish. Just know that every action has a reaction, and there is no reason to think that something like this can’t happen to you.

Just keep Amy in mind and in your thoughts.
