Amsterdam's treatment centers provide a range of evidence-based services tailored to different needs and stages of recovery.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Three centers in Amsterdam offer naltrexone, an opioid antagonist that reduces cravings and supports long-term recovery. Naltrexone works by blocking opioid receptors and is available in oral form. Each center can confirm specific formulations and dosing schedules during intake.
Counseling and Behavioral Therapy
All three of the centers offering substance use treatment also provide:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — helping you identify triggers and develop coping strategies
- Trauma-informed counseling — addressing underlying trauma that may contribute to substance use
- Substance abuse counseling — focused, evidence-based individual and group support
- Motivational interviewing and brief intervention — techniques to strengthen commitment to change
Family and Couples Support
Three centers offer family counseling, marital counseling, and group sessions, recognizing that recovery is often a family process. Partners and family members can participate in sessions and learn how to support sustainable recovery.
Assessment and Care Planning
All facilities are affiliated with New York State's substance abuse agencies and are accredited by the Joint Commission, ensuring oversight, quality standards, and person-centered care. During your first visit, you'll receive a full assessment and work with clinicians to create a treatment plan matched to your situation.
