Project Semicolon: Empowering Through Love

Family Resources for Addiction

Depression.. .suicide… addiction…. self-injury.

These events have devastating effects on those who struggle and can tear apart the strongest of families and friendships.

If you or a loved one is in the grip of these afflictions, you may feel alone in the world, feeling like there is no way out of the darkness. While you may put on a brave front and act like everything is fine, you are in agony on the inside and desperately wanting someone to understand the helplessness that you feel on the inside.

Fortunately, there are resources available to you comprised of people who have been through what you are currently going through. These have come through the darkness, and want to help encourage and support others to find peace and serenity in their own livesProject Semicolon is one such organization and their goal is not only to help you through these times of pain and uncertainty, they want to help empower you to help others in their time of need.

Project Semicolon: Hope, Empowerment, Healing

Project Semicolon is a faith-based non-profit movement that is dedicated to presenting hope and love to all people who are struggling with depression, suicide, addiction and self-injury. Their ultimate goal is to spread encouragement, love and support through the sharing of their stories as well as through active community involvement and providing resources that will assist you in getting the help you need. It is their ultimate goal to bring mental illness issues to the forefront and that all people come together as a community in support of each other.

Project Semicolon was founded in the spring of 2013 by Amy Bleuel, who wanted to honor her father whom she lost to suicide. The symbolism behind the semicolon used in the title of the organization relates to the struggles of those who deal with mental illnesses such as addiction, depression, suicide and self-harming behaviors and the will to continue on and become stronger. As this project grew in scope it became more than one person honoring their father–the message of hope spread to a bigger audience through social media, musician support and the courage of those willing to tell their stories in the hopes of touching others’ lives.

How Can Project Semicolon Help You?

It is important to note that Project Semicolon is NOT a 24-hour helpline and its’ members are not trained mental health professionals. What they do provide people suffering from the effects and stigma of mental illness is HOPE, SUPPORT, and EMPOWERMENT. This is done through providing you with resources from the fields of addiction, eating disorders, domestic violence and psychiatry so you can receive the knowledge, counseling and help that you need. Project Semicolon also promotes community events nationwide that help bring these important issues front and center. Additionally, Project Semicolon provides opportunities for those affected by all forms of mental illness to share their stories, become involved in street teams and become active in promoting awareness at all levels.
