Lindsey McKeon Talks Drugs, Religion and Materialism
SpiritualityLindsey McKeon gives her insight in our second video of our 5 part series.
Video Translation:
It starts out as fun for some people, you know? Experimentation.
But before you know it… There are reasons I was doing it and that most people do it to hide from other things. There’s an honesty that they’re not willing to have with themselves.
We’re all searching for something in this world. We don’t know what we’re doing here. We’ve landed on planet earth and we think “fuck, where what do I do now?”
Do I just buy a car, do I do drugs? Is my life pain? Is it joy? Is it God? Is there a meaning? What is this?
I think that is a common thread with all of us.
Is addiction simply a coping mechanism?
Lindsey describes how the confusion of life, and how the struggle to find her place in the world may have resulted in her drug use.
Many can relate to Lindsey’s experience. Not knowing our place and our purpose can lead to what is commonly known as a “spiritual malady.”
Finding a connection with a higher power, and finding a purpose can relieve much of the pain that comes with these obsessive thoughts and behaviors.
Many recovered addicts can attest to the power this confusion has on us.
Addiction is a symptom.
As Lindsey suggests, it is no wonder why people try to cover up this confusion with outside forces. Doing drugs, unhealthy relationships, and materialism are all ways that we cope and try to “fill the void” that we have inside ourselves.
These behaviors are very common, even for people who are not addicts. Finding a connection and purpose is a part of the human experience.
